Glossary

Aggregation of data means collecting and processing data to be in a desired format. At Token Terminal, we aggregate raw blockchain-level data (for example, transactions) and present it using standardized business metrics (for example, daily revenue).
All-time high (ATH) is the highest historical price of an asset, such as a token.
All-time low (ATL) is the lowest historical price of an asset, such as a token.
Blockchain is a distributed database that consists of a growing list of blocks that are linked together using cryptography. Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block and its authenticity is confirmed by validators of a distributed network.
Cryptocurrency is a digital currency that uses a blockchain to record transactions without relying on a central authority, such as a government or a bank. The term cryptocurrency is often reserved for the native token of a blockchain (for example, Ethereum’s ETH), in contrast to tokens launched by dapps (for example, Uniswap’s UNI).
Decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) is a collectively owned, blockchain-governed working towards a common mission. Usually protocols built upon blockchains form DAOs to coordinate decision-making and manage their treasuries.
Decentralized application (dapp) is a computer program running on a blockchain using smart contracts. Dapps leave permanent records on the blockchain that can not be removed by any central authority, such as a company or an individual. In some cases, dapps are designed so that even the developers can not modify its functionality after it’s been deployed.
Decentralized Finance (DeFi) is a novel form of finance that relies on smart contracts on blockchains to offer financial services, such as lending and trading, without intermediaries.
Denomination is the unit in which an asset is priced. For example, the price of an asset can be denominated in US dollars or ETH.
Governance token is a token whose holders have governance rights.
Granularity means the level of detail of data. In time series data, granularity is the time period between two subsequent data points.
Gross merchandise volume (GMV) is equal to the total value of sales. For blockchains, it is the total transaction volume. For dapps, it the total trading volume of their product. For example, for lending protocols, it is the total borrowing volume, and for exchanges, it is the total trading volume.
Project is an umbrella term Token Terminal uses for blockchains and dapps.
Protocol is a set of rules that enable computers to communicate to each other.
Ticker symbol is a unique short combination of letters that is used to represent an asset (for example, BTC for Bitcoin).
Token is a digital asset deployed on a blockchain.
Tokenholder of a project is someone who owns tokens of the project.
Yield is the realized return of an investment over a given period of time. It is expressed as percentage and measures the profitability of an investment.
